Its School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is one of the top UK schools of pharmacy, and it conducts research ​on​ ​the​ ​discovery​, development​ and use ​of​​ ​drugs​ in areas such as​ ​​Alzheimer’s disease,​ ​Parkinson’s disease, cancer, diabetes and infectious diseases.

The School’s two broad research themes are: Drug Discovery, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Experimental Therapeutics (DDPSET); and Medicines Optimisation and Healthcare Outcomes (MOHO). 

Research into technological and biological aspects of drug and gene delivery falls predominantly within the DDPSET theme, and includes transcutaneous, pulmonary and intestinal delivery, and methods for crossing the blood brain barrier.
